Bath student plans to work in health care field

BATH TOWNSHIP — A bad situation turned out good for Bath High School senior Wyatt Stahl during his sophomore year.

Competing on the soccer team, Stahl was seeing his playing time diminish.

“The coach sat me, and I wasn’t happy,” Stahl said.

Stahl received a call from the cross-country coach and told him he could try running a few meets. Stahl did so well, he ended up quitting soccer and focusing more time on his running. It led to Stahl being a first team All-WBL performer with a best time of 16:48. He was a regional qualifier in 2014 and 2015 and was the Allen County meet champion in 2015. He ended up with the honor of JJHuddle.com’s cross-country athlete of the week honors and was a two-time Western Buckeye league All-Academic team performer.

The success carried over into success on the track as well, as he won four letters with a personal best mile time of 4:43 and a two-mile time of 10:18.

“I am so glad I made that move,” Stahl said. “I love running. It helped me get where I am today.”

Stahl also won two letters in wrestling, giving him nine varsity letters in his career. However, athletics was not the only place where Stahl thrived. He has a 3.8 GPA and has taken college classes in several subjects while in high school.

Stahl was a member of the National Honor Society. He was a member of the marching, concert, symphony, pep, pit and jazz bands for four years, and was also first chair double bass on the Lima Area Youth Orchestra. He is a John Phillip Sousa and Louis Armstrong Jazz Award recipient, and also received the Lima News Scholar Athlete Community Service Award.

Outside school, he is a member of the Luther Society with Trinity Lutheran Church and has volunteered at Our Daily Bread Soup Kitchen and Lima Memorial Health System. It was volunteering where he found his call.

“After volunteering at Lima Memorial, I found out this is what I want to do,” Stahl said.

Stahl starts college in the fall at Ohio Northern University and plans to pursue a career in medicine.

Stahl said he owes much of his success to his years at Lima Bath.

“I found that going here led to a lot of opportunities,” Stahl said.
