Waynesfield youth ready for the next challenge

WAYNESFIELD — Life is challenging.

Perhaps that is why Waynesfield-Goshen senior Kiley Valenti enjoys life so much. The 18-year-old never backs down from a challenge. Perhaps that is why math has been her favorite school subject.

“I enjoy math because of the challenge,” Valenti said. “I feel good when I overcome it.”

Valenti has overcome all challenges academically as she prepares for college. She will graduate with a 3.96 GPA. Her next academic challenge will not wait very long to start. She will begin college during the summer semester at Rhodes State College, studying to be an occupational therapy assistant.

“I am hoping I will get to work with children,” Valenti said, “maybe in a school setting.”

Valenti kept her grades up despite being quite involved in extracurriculars as well. She was a member of the track and basketball teams and was a cheerleader. She was a member of the pep and marching bands and participated in the school musicals and dinner theaters.

In track, as a member of the 1,600 and 3,200 meter relays, both were the top qualifiers going into the league meet. Valenti said they were battling with Lehman to take home the crown. Valenti also participated in the 400-meter run.

She was a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Music is something that has been very important to her. Valenti plays the trumpet.

“I enjoy music and band,” Valenti said. “It has been a very big part of my life.”

Outside school, Valenti is also active with her church. She attends Waynesfield Baptist Church, where she is frequently involved with the Christmas and Easter productions at the church. She also sometimes works int he church nursery, and also baby sits on her own time.

Valenti said she owes a lot of her success to growing up in Waynesfield.

“It has been great,” Valenti said. “I couldn’t imagine ever going somewhere else. It is a great feeling knowing you have a whole school, all the faculty and the whole town behind you.”

Valenti is the daughter of Brad and Dena Valenti.
