USDA awards $200,000 to Midwest Electric

ST. MARYS — The U.S. Department of Agriculture is awarding Midwest Electric Cooperative a $200,000 grant to install water lines, through Marion Industrial Park and the Village of Chickasaw, and to upgrade the water treatment plant. The project is estimated to create 190 jobs.

The award is part of a USDA initiative to support economic development in rural areas, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack stated in a news release. The USDA awarded a total of $39.3 million in loans and grants for 68 projects in 26 states.

Midwest Electric is a customer-owned electric cooperative providing electric distribution services to more than 11,000 homes, farms and businesses in Allen, Auglaize, Darke, Mercer, Putnam, Shelby and Van Wert counties.
