Crestview recognizes March students of the month
CONVOY — Crestview Middle and High school teachers have nominated one student from each grade to receive the March Students of the Month designations. These students have shown a strong work ethic when completing their studies, and have gone the “extra mile” in helping others in their classes.
March students of the month include: Ryan Sowers, sixth grade; Lexi Dull, seventh grade; Kaden Short, eighth grade; Hailey Speith, ninth grade; Whitney Bowen, 10th grade; Kaleb Myers, 11th grade; and Travis Lichtensteier, 12th grade.
February middle school students of the month were: Maisee Short, sixth grade; Kirsten Swander, seventh grade and Chloee Case, eighth grade.
Regional Oratorical Contest held
LIMA — The Regional Oratorical Contest was held at UNOH on April 9. The event was sponsored by Shawnee Optimist Club and was hosted by the UNOH Optimist Club. The contest was organized by Cheryl Morgan from the Shawnee Optimist Club. It was judged by Bob Cupp, Mary Marker and Tara Shepherd.
Area winners of the girls contest include: Harley Adamson, New Carlisle Optimist Club; Jenna Casey, Wilberforce-Xenia Optimist Club; Madison Downing, Shawnee Optimist Club; Katie Fuetter, Putnam County Optimist Club; Hope Gossard, Wapakoneta Noon Optimist Club; and Sarah Kinder, Troy Optimist Club.
Winner of the boys contest include: Matthew Azzarello, Shawnee Optimist Club; Ian Delaney, Wilberforce-Xenia Optimist Club; Nick Wile, New Carlisle Optimist Club; and Calahan Wolfrum, Van Wert Optimist Club.
Fourth grade ukulele and harmonica group performed
LIMA — The fourth grade Ukulele Group and Heritage Harmonics performed for the Kiwanis Club at the Milano Café at Noon Tuesday.
Crestview hosts kids against hunger
CONVOY — Crestview’s national honor society chapter and scholastic bowl team hosted a Kids Against Hunger event on April 10 to feed children in Haiti.
Kids Against Hunger is a nonprofit, humanitarian, food-aid organization that feeds hungry children and families in the United States and abroad. Crestview had 64 students prepare and package more than 15,000 meals for children in need, and raised more than $3,900 to help families in need.
Lima City Schools recognizes staff
LIMA —The Lima City Schools recognized this year’s “Outstanding 11” award winners Thursday. One teacher from each school building receives the honor. They are nominated by their peers.
The district began the awards in 2011 after a visit from nationally known educator Ron Clark, author of “The Excellent 11.”
The winners demonstrate Clark’s 11 qualities to motivate and educate children: enthusiasm, adventure, creativity, reflection, balance, compassion, confidence, humor, common sense, appreciation and resilience.

Elida Elementary School holds “Healthy Kids Week”
ELIDA — Elida Elementary is celebrating its first “Healthy Kids Week” through Friday.
During this week teachers and students will be involved in exercises to learn about summer safety, healthy eating, etc. The students will receive a “Wellness Passport” to complete at home. The passport encourages students to eat a good breakfast, brush their teeth, eat one cup of fruit and vegetables and sleep at least nine hours. Students are encouraged to complete the passport and return it to school with parent signatures, for a chance to be eligible in a drawing for prizes.
There will also be a “Walking Challenge.” During gym class, students will be walking the track and recording their total mileage.
Lima Senior honors top academic students
LIMA — Lima Senior High School will recognize top academic students at its annual honors banquet Wednesday.
Nearly 375 students will be honored.
Students who have made the honor roll all three quarters and those named students of the month throughout the school year are invited to the banquet and honored.
One student from each grade level receives top awards in math, social studies, language arts, foreign language, art and music. A junior and a senior will receive career tech awards.
New Bremen names prom court
NEW BREMEN — New Bremen held its prom Saturday. The theme for this year’s prom was enchanted night. Students named to the prom court were: Sarah Hall; Alyse Clune; Craig Francis; Aly Elking; Makenna Brackman; Cam Bergman; Mitch Kramer; Allison Luedeke; Greg Parker; and Ben Schwieterman.
Celina resident receives scholarship
CELINA — Madison E. Mertz, of Celina, received the Emerson Electric Co. scholarship. She plans to enter the field of veterinary medicine.
Emerson Electric Co. recognizes the outstanding sons and daughters of Emerson employees.
Wapakoneta High School presents
‘The Complete Works of Shakespeare’
WAPAKONETA — Wapakoneta High School is presenting “The Complete Works of Shakespeare.” Show dates are May 5, 6 and 7 at 7 p.m. in the Wapak High School Large Group Room. General admission is $8. Tickets can be purchased online at http://j.mp/WapakPAC or at the door.
Celina Middle School students support
American Cancer Society
CELINA — Celina Middle School students are involved in a yearlong community project that supports the American Cancer Society. The Celina Middle School Mini-Relay for Life celebrates the students’ success and honors individuals in the community who have fought the battle against cancer.
Celina Middle School will hold its Mini-Relay for Life on May 11. The event kicks off with a Survivor breakfast held at Celina Middle School cafeteria at 7 a.m.
Rain dates are May 12 and 13.
