2nd arrest made in armed robbery of Dollar General in Rockford

ROCKFORD — A Fort Wayne, Indiana, man was arrested by federal agents in connection with an April 18 robbery at the Dollar General store in Rockford.

Chief Paul May of the Rockford Police Department said Edward Smith, 44, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, was arrested by agents from the U.S. Marshals Service. Smith was being held in the Allen County, Indiana, Jail in lieu of $500,000 bail and is awaiting extradition back to Mercer County.

Smith was the second man arrested in connection with the robbery.
