LIMA — Members of three agencies will be going door to door to install free smoke alarms and teach people about fire safety on Saturday.
People from the American Red Cross, Bath Township Fire Department and the Ohio State Fire Marshal’s Office will be going door to door offering to teach people how to be prepared for home fires. They also can inspect a home and install smoke detectors where needed.
Seven times a day, someone in the United States dies in a fire and numerous others injured. The Red Cross is partnering with local fire departments to visit high-risk neighborhoods for fires to help people. Officials want to try to reduce the number of deaths in home fires by 25 percent over the next five years through the Home Fire Preparedness Campaign across the country.
Officials hope to visit 300 to 500 homes during the day. Anyone wanting to volunteer as part of the Home Fire Preparedness Campaign can contact the Red Cross at 419-905-8302.
