Man arrested after being held at gunpoint

CELINA — A Spencerville man was arrested for criminal trespassing after a homeowner in Celina held him at gunpoint until officers arrived on the scene.

The Mercer County Sheriff’s Office reported receiving a report at 3:51 a.m. Sunday from the homeowner at 4960 Kittle Road. The homeowner held two men at gunpoint while awaiting officers. After arriving, officers arrested James Baker, 34, of Spencerville, on a charge of criminal trespass. The other man fled on foot before deputies arrived.

Deputies recovered a black box containing several baggies of suspected methamphetamine, pills that are suspected of being morphine, a bag of suspected marijuana, and a pocket scale near the vehicle of the suspects, which was parked in the victim’s driveway.

The substance in the baggies later tested positive for methamphetamine, officials said. The vehicle, a 2005 Hyundai owned by Baker, was seized by officers. Baker was taken to the Mercer County Jail and was being held in lieu of $125,000 bail.

Deputies plan to apply for a search warrant for the vehicle, and the case will be forwarded to the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office for review of additional charges.

Deputies were seeking the second man, described as being 5 foot 6 inches tall, weighing about 150 pounds, last seen wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans. Contact the Sheriff’s Office with any information on the identity of this man.

The incident remained under investigation Monday.

Deputies were assisted by the Coldwater Police Department.
