scholarship
LIMA — The Lima Noon Sertoma Service Club will be announcing the winners of this year’s speech-language pathology scholarship during it Tuesday meeting at the Old Barn Out Back. Two Bowling Green State University graduate students will receive $2,500 each.
The scholarship was established in 2010 by the club as part of its mission as a speech and hearing organization.

ADA — William “Blake” Hays, a sixth-year pharmacy major at Ohio Northern University and originally from Cincinnati, has been awarded the United States Public Health Service Excellence in Public Health Pharmacy Practice Award.
Dr. Karen Kier, ONU professor of pharmacy practice, nominated Hays for his work and leadership in designing and implementing a skin-screening and educational-outreach program to promote proper skin care.
This is the second consecutive year that an Ohio Northern pharmacy student has received this award.

ADA — Ohio Northern University student Rachel Cruea, a junior creative writing major from Findlay, has received the 2016 Adroit Prize in Poetry. This is an international poetry prize for undergraduates and high school students presented by The Adroit Journal.
Cruea’s poem, “The Yellow Marrow Doesn’t Matter,” was selected from thousands of entries from around the world.

LIMA — Brenda Feasby, a sophomore from Payne who attends the University of Northwestern Ohio, was one of 13 student athletes selected from around the country as the Class of 2016 NAIA Red Cross Ambassadors. As part of the honor, Feasby will attend the 2016 NAIA/Red Cross Collegiate Leadership program in Washington D.C. in June.
Feasby was nominated by UNOH Softball coaches Tracy Coffman and Brittany Jurek. Feasby has been assisting in promoting Red Cross Blood Drives on the UNOH campus since 2015 and has exceeded all of her goals for units of blood donated.
Feasby is a Sport Marketing and Management major at UNOH.

LIMA — The Ohio State Beauty Academy will host a student hair competition at 6 p.m., Thursday, April 21st with the theme “Hairy Potter and The Chamber of Style,” at the UNOH Event Center.
Hairstyles will be inspired by characters and themes from the film, “Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets.” There will be more than 50 students competing in the show.

Drew Elson, of Minster, has been admitted to the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Shayna Niese, of Elida, has been admitted to the University of Findlay Physician Assistant Program.

ASHLAND — Hannah Drake is a member of Ashland University’s chapter of the Ohio Collegiate Music Education Association.
Drake is majoring in music education with a concentration in instrumental music. She is a 2015 graduate of Crestview High School.

NEW CONCORD — Jordan Risner, of Huntsville, has earned a distinguished scholar award at Muskingum University.
Distinguished Scholar Awards recognize students whose academic performance ranks in the highest five percent of their class.
Allison Guckes, of Botkins, was inducted into the Lambda Sigma honor society at Muskingum.
The Lambda Sigma Society is a national honor society for second-year men and women. It is dedicated to the purpose of fostering leadership, scholarship, fellowship and the spirit of service among college students and to promoting the interests of the college or university in every possible way.

DAYTON — Erin Dingle, of Van Wert, is part of of 22 University of Dayton students that received an outstanding delegation award during the recent National Model United Nations Conference in New York City.
The National Model United Nations Conference gives college students a better understanding of the United Nations’ inner workings and prepares them to become global citizens. The conference has grown to more than 6,000 students from 411 colleges and universities from five continents.

BOWLING GREEN — Alexis Decker, of Kalida, has been initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines. She is pursuing a degree in communication disorders at Bowling Green State University.
Decker is among approximately 30,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni to be initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year. Membership is by invitation and requires nomination and approval by a chapter.

FINDLAY — The University of Findlay’s College of Pharmacy students earned a 100 percent passage rate when taking a law test on their first try. The recognition was included in the “Pharmacy Times.”

BLUFFTON — Bluffton University will present “Curtains” a musical comedy for the May Day musical at 7:30 p.m. from May 5 through 7 in Founders Hall. ASHLAND — Emily Kaiser, of New Bremen, is a member of Ashland University’s Technical Productions Crew. She is the daughter of James and Pamela Kaiser, of New Bremen, and is a 2013 graduate of New Bremen Local School.
The Technical Production Crew provides technical assistance to student organizations and departments for activities and events on campus.
Vehicle in
Grand Prix
LIMA — Two University of Northwester Ohio students and two staff members will be traveling to Watkins Glen, New York to compete in the 12th Annual Toyota Green Grand Prix today. The Toyota Green Grand Prix is a showcase of vehicle technology that aims for a cleaner environment and is hosted at Watkins Glen International Race Course.
UNOH will be bringing two vehicles to the event. A 2003 Dodge Ram 3500 dually will be used to transport the 2007 Chevy HHR. The Dodge Ram was converted by students to be able to run on five different fuel types: diesel, B100, B20, Vegetable Oil and propane. The Chevy HHR has a liquid injected propane system conversion kit from ICOM. The HHR can run on either gasoline or propane fuel.

Up to Us is sponsored by the Peter G. Peterson Foundation in partnership with the Clinton Global Initiative University and Net Impact, and gives young leaders a voice on fiscal issues and a chance to educate their peers that they are the generation most affected by our nation’s debt.

LIMA — Rainy Monday Michael, of Lima, was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa honor society at Bowling Green State University on April 3, 2016.
She is the daughter of Christy Aab, of Lima, and a 2012 graduate of Lima Senior High School.
