Biz Beat: Leadership Conference to be simulcast in Van Wert

VAN WERT — Leadercast is the world’s largest one-day leadership event, broadcast to hundreds of locations around the world on May 6. This year marks the third year the Van Wert Area Chamber of Commerce will host the event at LifeHouse Church at the YMCA Camp Clay, 9196 Liberty-Union Road, Van Wert.

The theme of this year’s conference is, “Architects of Tomorrow,” which will focus on visionary leaders who “imagine and build a future that is rich in innovation, collaboration and full of hope,” a news release stated. Among this year’s keynote speakers are Nick Saban, head football coach at the University of Alabama, network broadcaster James Brown, and Steve Wozniak, co-founder of Apple, Inc.

As last year was an early sell-out, the chamber encourages early registration. The best way to reserve and purchase tickets is online at vanwertchamber.com. Tickets are $80 per person or $75 per person for seven or more. This offer is available through Thursday, and will increase on Friday to $90 per person or $85 per person for seven or more. Tickets are available through May 2 or until sold out.

Local contractor wins Super Service Award

SIDNEY — Ben Waters Services & Painting has earned the service industry’s Angie’s List Super Service Award for 2015, marking the third consecutive year the contractor has received this distinction.

According to Angie’s List founder Angie Hicks, only about 5 percent of painting companies in Ohio have performed consistently well enough to earn this award.

Angie’s List Super Service Award winners have met strict eligibility requirements, which include an A rating in overall grade, recent grade and review period grade. Companies must also be in good standing with Angie’s List, pass a background check and abide by Angie’s List operational guidelines.

Service company ratings are updated daily on Angie’s List. Companies are graded an an A through F scale in areas ranging from price to professionalism and punctuality.

ODA seeks to recognize farm families

REYNOLDSBURG — The Ohio Department of Agriculture is accepting nominations to honor Ohio farm families who are leaders in conservation for the 2016 Conservation Farm Family Awards.

Individual farmers, partnerships or family farm corporations are eligible for nomination, provided a substantial portion of their income is derived from farming.

Five area finalists will be selected from across the state and will be recognized at the annual Farm Science Review in September. They will also receive a $400 award, and will be featured in the September issue of Ohio Farmer Magazine.

Nomination forms can be obtained from local county soil and water conservation districts or by visiting the ODA’s website at agri.ohio.gov. Forms can be submitted by email to [email protected] or by mail to Ohio Farmer Magazine, C/O Ohio Department of Agriculture 8995 E. Main St., Reynoldsburg, Ohio 43608. Forms must be returned by May 20.

Beef Producers schedule presentation, banquet

OTTAWA — The Putnam County Beef Producers are presenting “Growing Systems to Maximize Lean Growth, Feed Efficiency and Profitability” at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Putnam County Extension office, 1206 E. Second St., Ottawa.

The Dairy Banquet will be held at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday at the Kalida KC Hall, 718 Napoleon Road, Kalida. Cost is $10 per person.

Pharmacy joins Activate Allen County

SPENCERVILLE — Activate Allen County has announced that Canal Healthmart Pharmacy has agreed to join Healthy Happens Here, Allen County’s Healthy Grocery Program.

Healthy Happens Here is a program to promote healthy options such as fresh produce and smarter snack options in small stores throughout Allen County. The goal of this program is to not only increase the healthy choices offered within small stores located in food deserts, but display these choices in an attractive and appealing way to assist customers in making the healthier choice easier.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 4, Activate Allen County and St. Rita’s Health Partners will be hosting a free kick-off event for the community. The event will take place at Canal Healthmart Pharmacy, 102 S. Broadway St. in Spencerville. There will be blood pressure screenings, coupons for produce, prizes, community vendors and more during the event.

Delphos businesses eligible for bike racks

DELPHOS — Allen County Public Health’s Creating Healthy Communities program is looking to fund a limited number of businesses and community organizations that are interested in placing a bike rack at their locations. The CHC program will assist in the purchase of the bike racks as well as provide help with bike rack selection, location and installation.

Chamber Shack event scheduled

LIMA — The Lima/Allen County Chamber of Commerce has announced that Chamber Shack, formerly known as Putt Around Town, is being held from 5 to 10 p.m. April 7 at the Howard Johnson Hotel in Lima.

This event will allow businesses to promote themselves through custom built putt-putt greens in which teams of four will try their putt-putt skills to compete for $400 cash and be named “Lord of the Putt.”

Registration for this event is now open. The cost to register a foursome is $60 and may be purchased at the chamber office. Each team member will receive one free drink ticket. Drinks and food are provided by Howard Johnson.
