Ohio House Speaker addresses Allen Co. GOP

LIMA — When it comes time to vote in Tuesday’s primary, Ohio House Speaker Cliff Rosenberger, R-Clarksville, maintains that the best place to find strong leadership is in the Republican Party.

That was Rosenberger’s message to Allen County Republicans during his keynote address at the party’s Lincoln Reagan Dinner Thursday at UNOH Event Center. He also maintained that anyone looking for proof of what Republican leadership can accomplish need only look at the Buckeye State.

“We’re talking about what we’ve been able to accomplish over the last few years here in the state of Ohio,” he said. “We’re looking at where we’ve come from to where we are with a $5 billion tax cut, making sure that Ohio is continuing to have opportunities to allow for jobs to be created in the state and have businesses flourish and also Gov. John Kasich’s record.”

One of the next major tasks the House is expected to take up was made possible thanks to strong leadership, Rosenberger said.

“The first major issue we’re going to take up in the next few months is the capital budget and looking at ways we can bring back a lot of good for our local communities,” he said. “The capital budget is only possible because of the good things we’ve been able to do over the last few years to get Ohio’s budget in order.”

Rosenberger hopes that same leadership will be extended to the rest of the nation through Gov. Kasich’s bid for president.

“I’m confident that Ohio will give him a win here in the state because of his positive message,” he said. “He’s got a record of leadership. When I came into the General Assembly with the governor in 2011 and there was an $8 billion budget deficit, 16 percent of the state budget disappeared and he didn’t raise taxes. He’s done a great job righting the ship in the state of Ohio.”

While presidential politics dominates the headlines during this election, Rosenberger also emphasized the need for Republican leadership in other state races.

“We can’t just focus on the White House,” he said. “We have to focus on the state House and the courthouse. We’ve got a lot of people to be proud of on the ballot.”
