150 to attend Kasich townhall in Lima

LIMA — When Ohio Governor and U.S. presidential candidate John Kasich holds a national televised town hall meeting in today in Lima, he will have the usual security — but nothing like a front runner.

Kasich is hoping to change that and his position in the Republican race to be the candidate on the November ballot. Kasich is one of four candidates and is well behind Donald Trump and the man in second place for delegates, Ted Cruz.

Allen County Republican Party Chairman Keith Cheney said 150 people will attend the town hall.

Lima Police were told the Ohio State Highway Patrol, which is responsible for the security for the governor, did not request any additional help, said Lt. Andy Green of the Lima Police Department.

Kasich is hoping his rally today at the Lima Pallet Co. at 1470 Neubrecht Road gives him a boost to win Ohio next Tuesday and give his campaign the shot in the arm it desperately needs before he gets too far behind.

The town hall begins at 2 p.m. and will be moderated by Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.” Tickets are required to attend.

Should Kasich pick up steam he not only would require more security but could pick up Secret Service protection if he approaches front runner status.

That’s a lot of ifs but for now he’ll have the security of a sitting governor and a candidate hanging on in the race to be the Republican nominee for president.
