Trial pushed back in heroin case

LIMA — A man facing charges that accuse him of being a big heroin dealer was given a new trial date of June 20 on Thursday.

Anthony Duvernay, 40, waived his right to a speedy trial allowing his trial to be pushed back two months, giving his attorney more time to prepare for that and a motion to toss any evidence collected while authorities attached a tracking device to his car.

Duvernay is charged with possession of heroin, trafficking in heroin, illegal manufacturing of heroin and engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity. He and Marvin Thomas, 45, both of Lima, face similar charges. The matter is over an estimated $330,000 of heroin found in several vehicles in October.

Prosecutors have filed a motion to increase Thomas’ bond to $2 million from the current $500,000 fearing he is a risk of running should he come up with the current bond. Judge Jeffrey Reed has not ruled on that motion.
