Elida school board on final stretch in superintendent search

ELIDA — Elida school board members are going over the final details concerning the final three candidates for superintendent, and plan on hiring a new one soon.

The board met in executive session for about an hour and a half Monday to review the final three candidates. Allen County Educational Service Center Superintendent Dean Wittwer said the board was working hard on making a decision. The ESC is aiding the district in the superintendent search.

“They are following up on references, asking a lot of questions,” Wittwer said. “They are having discussions about the candidates. They are doing a good job at being thorough.”

Two of the final three candidates are Riverside Schools Superintendent Scott Mann and Beavercreek Schools Assistant Superintendent Susan Haywood. Wittwer did not have the name of the third candidate immediately available and could not be reached later.

The board originally received eight résumés for the position, which included former Lima Senior High School Principal Doug Kent and former interim St. Marys Schools Superintendent Jerry Skiver locally. The board initially began the interview process Nov. 14.

As far as a timetable, Wittwer said the board wanted to hire someone “as soon as possible.” He said the board would possibly call back the three finalists for additional interviews if needed.

The position came open when former Superintendent Tony Cox took a job in the Shawnee Local School District. Former Spencerville schools Superintendent Joel Hatfield is serving as interim superintendent of the district until a replacement is found.
