6 file for Lima Municipal Court judge

LIMA — Six attorneys have filed for the chance to replace Judge RicKard Workman of Lima Municipal Court, who is retiring at the end of January.

Republicans Bob Grzybowski, Bob Honigford, Brad Kelley, John Payne, Jerry Pitts and David Rodabaugh submitted résumés to seek the position being vacated by Workman, Allen County Republican Chairman Keith Cheney said Tuesday.

“All six of these candidates will be interviewed Dec. 8. A recommendation will be made from the screening committee to the central and executive committee, where a selection of three candidates will be chosen and forwarded to the governor’s office for the appointment,” Cheney said.

The local Republican Party, which controls the seat, will send the names to the governor Dec. 9. Cheney expects the governor to act fairly quick and have someone in place before Workman leaves Jan. 31, Cheney said.

Rodabaugh has been an attorney since 1977 in various capacities, including serving as law director for Lima.

Payne has been an attorney since 2007 and is a deputy law director for Lima.

Honigford has been an attorney since 1991, handling many different areas of law including as an assistant law director and prosecutor.

Grzybowski has been an attorney since 1990 and is best known for public defender and criminal defense work.

Pitts has been an attorney since 1987 and is best known for criminal defense work.

Kelley has been an attorney since 1979 in private practice handling many different areas of law.

Interviews last between 20 and 30 minutes. Members of the committee will know all about each candidate before the candidate appears and will have a chance to ask questions, Cheney said.

Workman, 68, announced in October he was retiring with about two years left on his term. He said after 23 years he was ready to call it a career to spend more time with his grandchildren and the rest of his family.

By February, the court will have two relatively new judges. Tammie Hursh was appointed last year to replace Judge William Lauber, who retired.
