Celina man injured in crash near Ohio City

OHIO CITY — A Celina man was injured in a crash late Sunday afternoon that may have involved alcohol.

Michael S. Carey, 30, was taken to the hospital to be treated for his injuries, the Van Wert post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol reported.

Carey was driving north on state Route 118 at 4:51 p.m. when he came upon a slower moving vehicle driven by Scott A. Hileman, 37, of Van Wert. Hileman was behind slower moving traffic when Carey struck his vehicle, the patrol reported.

Carey’s vehicle went off the right side of the road, struck a ditch and overturned. Carey was taken to Van Wert County Hospital where he refused tests to determine his blood-alcohol level. He then was transferred to a hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana, for further treatment, the patrol reported.

Carey was not wearing a seat belt and troopers suspect he was operating his vehicle under the influence. The crash remained under investigation Monday and charges were pending, the patrol reported.
