Allen County commissioners, PCS Nitrogen pen Enterprise Zone Agreement

LIMA — The Allen County commissioners on Tuesday approved a resolution to enter into an Enterprise Zone Agreement with PCS Nitrogen Inc.

After two and a half years of work PCS Nitrogen and Allen Economic Development Group were able to get the approval from the Commissioners Office to kick off construction on a rail yard to build a rail storage facility.

The resolution approved a 10-year, 50 percent tax abatement for the railroad storage facility that will be built off Shawnee Industrial Drive.

“This is a capital investment going towards PCS Nitrogen’s facility for the rail yard,” said Jeff Sprague, president and CEO of Allen Economic Development Group. “It’s part of a larger investment into the community, just the rail infrastructure is projected to be anywhere from $7 [million] to $9 million.”

This will allow PCS Nitrogen growth opportunities because this will build a yard that can be expanded to allow for more products to be brought in and out by truck or rail that increase their rail capacity.

“This project with PCS Nitrogen was the main drive with the help from the Shawnee Township trustees taking the lead to help get the funding needed to complete Shawnee Industrial Drive.” Sprague said.

The project was also to help with job retention to retain the current employment levels that the companies have.

Once all the paperwork is done PCS will be able to start construction on the project.

“It’s a total team effort because it involved the township trustees, the county commissioners and the company to pull everything together,” Sprague said. “It’s just another example of a cooperative environment in Allen County that supports economic development.”
