Money raised for animal shelters at Lima Pet Fest

LIMA — This year’s Pet Fest took place Saturday at the Allen County Fairgrounds by That Place for Pets.

The event ran from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and was open to the public. Families were encouraged to bring their furry friends and enjoy the activities that were held throughout the day.

This was the fourth year for Pet Fest. This year the focus was on responsible ownership and training between pets and owners.

“It’s important for owners to learn how to be a responsible when taking care of their pets,” said Marcy Kraner, owner of That Place for Pets.

Vendors and pet care companies in the area set up booths for owners and pets to check out their information and products. Children were able to take pictures with their pets and Scooby-Doo.

Many animals and owners showed up to the event in costumes prepared to enter into the pet contests that judges handed out awards for. Some additional awards that were won by various dogs were pet/owner look-a-like, best dressed pet, most unique pet, happiest tail, best pet smile, ugliest pet, cutest pet, biggest pet, smallest pet and best pet trick.

That Place for Pets provided an agility training course for owners to run their dogs through. Shows took place throughout the day by Jake the Diamond Dog, Ryder a pilot dog in training, and various Allen County Sheriff K-9 teams.

The K-9 Teams were able to demonstrate their dogs’ abilities and how their dogs are trained to work in the line of duty. K-9 dogs help locate narcotics, bombs, look for suspects and help look for people who have Alzheimer’s disease and who wandered off.

The event was a way to help raise money for local animal shelters. Donations were accepted and would be given to those rescue shelters that were in attendance, as well as, all the money raised in the silent auction that took place during the event.
