Woman pleads guilty in overdose death

LIMA — A woman who gave heroin to another woman which led to that woman’s overdose death pleaded guilty Thursday to involuntary manslaughter.

Misty M. Johnson, 39, will face up to 11 years in prison and a $20,000 fine when she is sentenced Nov. 30, before Judge David Cheney in Allen County Common Pleas Court.

In exchange for the plea, the prosecution dismissed the charge of corrupting another with drugs, a second-degree felony.

Johnson and Travis G. Kantner, 38, were charged in the June 8 death of Jessi Boggs, who died inside Johnson’s home at 637 1/2 N. Main St. The charges alleged the two furnished Boggs or administered Boggs heroin that led to her death.

The three were friends, Prosecutor Juergen Waldick said.

“She injected the victim with heroin at the victim’s request,” Waldick said. “A short time later, the victim died.”

During the overdose, emergency responders were called to Johnson’s home on a report of a person not breathing. Boggs was taken to St. Rita’s Medical Center, where she died, Waldick said.

Waldick declined to comment on Kantner’s role since his case is pending. Kantner is scheduled to stand trial Nov. 2.
