Crews rescue three who fell into Lima stone quarry

LIMA — Three people fell off a cliff and into the National Lime and Stone Quarry early Tuesday morning.

The Lima Fire Department responded to the call at 2:35 a.m. to 1314 Findlay Road, Lima. Lima Police Department and Bath Township Fire arrived to help assist the Lima Fire Department retrieve the three fallen victims.

Upon arrival, crews were able to assess the situation and set up lights. Three rescue crew members rapelled down to evaluate and help the three victims.

At 4:17 a.m., Jeffery Swink was lifted out of the quarry on a long spine board in a basket due to a possible critical head injury.

Crew members were able to lift Kat Brennan and Matt Wilcok out at 4:30 a.m. by placing them in a harness that was lifted out of the quarry. Both Brennan and Wilcok received minor injuries and were transported to Lima Memorial to be treated.

Swink was transported to Lima Memorial for his injuries by Bath Township EMS.

Lima Fire Department officials said they did not know why the victims were at the National Lime and Stone Quarry.

The incident is still under an investigation.
