Local fundraiser gives to Honor Flight program

LIMA — A local fundraiser has raised more than $2,000 to help local veterans get to Washington, D.C., through the Findlay-based Flag City Honor Flight program.

Mike Melvin raised $2,677 for the program through bus trips to various sporting events, including the Cincinnati Reds, Cleveland Indians, Detroit Tigers and Ohio State Buckeyes, as well as raffle ticket sales.

Honor Flight gives area military veterans the opportunity to fly to the nation’s capital with a guardian to visit their corresponding war memorial. Flag City Honor Flight’s annual trip takes 80 or more veterans on this potentially once-in-a-lifetime excursion.
