Cloverdale fails state audit

CLOVERDALE — The village of Cloverdale was placed on the unauditable list by Auditor of State, Dave Yost for incomplete records.

Auditor of State’s office found that the village’s financial records for the period Jan. 1, 2013, through December 31, 2014, were not adequate to complete the audit. A letter with a list of records required to complete that audit was sent to village officials.

Cloverdale officials were not available for comment.

The village must revise its financial records and provide the the required data within 90 days of the date of the letter. Any accounts, records and reports that are not brought to auditable condition may result in legal action. The attorney general may also issue a subpoena to village officials to explain the condition of the records that are not auditable.

“Poor records lead to poor service for taxpayers,” Yost said. “Auditable records must be provided to complete the audit and ensure accountability.”

The Auditor of State’s Local Government Section has been made available to assist village officials in bringing the required records to an auditable condition. The section provides a variety of services including reconstructing financial records and aid in the reconciliation of books.

To be removed from the unauditable list an entity must have a completed audit that has been released to the public.
