LIMA — Derek Stemen, of Delphos, will take over as executive director at the West Central Ohio Chapter of the American Red Cross beginning Monday.
Stemen was selected after the promotion of current director David Collins. Collins will now serve as Crossroads Division Director for Service to the Armed Forces.
Stemen, 33, of Delphos, is originally from Lima. Prior to taking the job at the Red Cross, he had been serving as director of admissions at Bluffton University.
Stemen is married and has three children.
“I am extremely honored to be able to represent the Red Cross in the communities where I was born and raised,” Stemen said. “I love this area and look forward to serving in this new role.”
In his new role, Collins will be responsible for the oversight and management of SAF services in Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, West Virginia and Michigan. SAF facilitates emergency communications between service members and their families, provides support to Veterans Administration hospitals, staffs SAF offices at military installations and provides education and training.
Collins said in a press release he was excited about his promotion and confident of Stemen’s ability.
“As a U.S. Army veteran, this promotion provides me the opportunity to work directly with my fellow veterans,” Collins said in a press release. “I consider it an honor to work with our military community. I am confident that Derek will hit the ground running and continue to build on the great work already accomplished by the staff and volunteers here.”
Stemen said he is looking forward to helping the great citizens of the West Central Ohio area.
“I believe in turning compassion to action,” Stemen said. “I appreciate the opportunity to make a real impact on people’s lives.”
