Donated pizzas bring smiles to faces of Lima’s less fortunate

LIMA — A total of 40 pepperoni pizzas were made fresh for the Christian Corner Community Center on Monday to help serve the estimated 80 visitors expected for lunch. Two local soup kitchens will be able to serve their visitors free pizza from Little Caesars Love Kitchen.

Little Caesars Love Kitchen will drive a tractor-trailer to Our Daily Bread and Christian Corner Community Center on Monday and Tuesday mornings. The crew will then prepare and cook the dough and pie right there in the back of the semitrailer, and then donate the pizzas to the kitchen volunteers to serve.

“The Love Kitchen was created to provide quality meals for people who need them,” said Ronald Massey, Little Caesars franchisee. “As a member of the area business community, it’s important for us to support people when they need it and help make the community stronger.”

Christian Corner Community Center mixed staff of volunteers and employees welcomed everyone who walked in with a smile. Many of the visitors returning the smile when handed their two slices of hot pizza, a banana, cheese crackers and a drink.

“At the end of the day, we’ll give folks that are still here a whole pizza to take home, if we still have some left. We won’t save or throw away the leftovers,” said Christian Corner Community Center Director, Phil Harpest. “Not when that could be their only food for dinner or could feed any family they have.”

While this is second time Little Caesars has provided pizza for the Christian Corner Community Center, Little Caesars Love Kitchen has fed more than 3 million people nationwide, including natural disaster areas. The food and labor costs for the Love Kitchen are donated by the local Little Caesars franchise owners and regional offices.

“Little Caesars Love Kitchens main goal is to help promote the local soup kitchens, and give them the some assistance in feeding the people in need of meals,” Massey said.
