Man arrested after driving wrong way on U.S. 33

HARROD — A Harrod man was arrested on several charges after an incident at 3 a.m. Saturday.

Spencer Stevens, 24, was arrested on charges of operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and was cited for reckless operation, failure to comply, driving the wrong way on a divided highway, disregarding a traffic control device and driving under suspension.

Stevens ignored multiple efforts to pull over as he drove westbound in the eastbound lane of U.S. Route 33 until an officer of the Bellefontaine Police Department deployed a strip of spikes.

Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office alerted area law enforcement and officers positioned themselves along U.S. 33 between township Road 55 and state Route 540.

One officer turned on his overhead lights and his spotlight to get the motorist’s attention near township Road 55, but he continued driving west. The officer followed and advised the officer ahead at the state Route 47 overpass to deploy the spikes. The tires were flattened and Stevens pulled over into the median.

Field sobriety tests indicated he was under the influence and he agreed to provide a blood sample for testing.
