Campus improvements greet Bluffton students

BLUFFTON — The lobby in Hirschy Hall is the latest residence hall lobby to get a makeover at Bluffton University.

Students who moved into Hirschy Hall last weekend saw a lobby, and adjacent lounge, with new paint, flooring and furniture, courtesy of a 50th-year class gift from Bluffton’s class of 1965.

The renovation is among this summer’s improvements on campus. Changes in the landscape also include the conversion of two tennis courts to basketball courts and, most visibly, the installation of artificial turf on Alumni Field at Salzman Stadium, along with resurfacing and upgrading of the track and field event areas there. Donors have funded the Alumni Field project with more than $750,000 in contributions.

UNOH granted accreditation for HIT program

LIMA — The University of Northwestern Ohio has received accreditation for the Health Information Technology program from the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education.

This supplemental accreditation by CAHIIM qualifies UNOH HIT graduates to be eligible for the American Health Information Management Association professional certification exams. These exams, if passed, allow a graduate to become a registered health information technician. Graduating from a CAHIIM accredited program offers employers assurance that students have the expected professional knowledge and skills, and have experienced a curriculum that is relevant to today’s electronic health record environment, a news release stated.

UNOH will be providing HIM certification exam refresher courses. Dates and times of these free refresher courses will be communicated to the graduates in the coming weeks.

Cleveland Browns executives visit UF

FINDLAY — Cleveland Browns President Alec Scheiner and other Browns executives participated Tuesday in the Edge Career Development Summit at The University of Findlay.

The event was part of a partnership, forged this past spring between the university and the organization, which provides learning opportunities focused on the business aspects of professional sports. Five UF students participated in special events internships this summer at the Browns’ headquarters in Berea, and one is continuing to work there this fall for a corporate partnerships internship.

At the summit, Scheiner and colleague Lauren Walters-Powel, coordinator of digital business, addressed students in a talk titled, “Play like a Brown – Owning Your Personal Brand and How to Use it to Achieve Your Goals.” A discussion about job interviews was also presented by Browns’ executives.
