Bath Township fire causes heavy damage to house

BATH TOWNSHIP — The Bath Township Fire Department responded to a 911 report of a house on fire at 1:36 p.m. Monday.

According to the report, firefighters arrived at 806 Christopher Drive to find a 1,136-square-foot home owned by Keith Ralston with heavy smoke rolling from the attic area. Ralston was not home at the time of the fire. Township fire crews were able to make entry and extinguish the fire within about 15 minutes.

The kitchen area of the home suffered the most the most damage, with heat and smoke damage throughout the structure. The damage was estimated at $30,000. Fire investigators said they believe the fire started in the area of the stove in the kitchen. The fire was not suspicious and has been ruled accidental.

The Allen County Chapter of the American Red Cross was called to the scene to assist the family.

No firefighters were injured and Bath Township Fire Department crews remained on the scene for about two hours.
