NAACP giveaway touches 100-plus families

LIMA — The Lima chapter of the NAACP gave away more than 100 book bags filled with school supplies and food to area families on Saturday.

The giveaway was part of the organization’s mission to help the citizens of Lima economically, socially, judicially and educationally, said Dr. Carol Fails, the group’s education chair.

“I was so touched by the gratitude of those families. I received so many hugs. I was deeply inspired by a mother who indicated that her family was hardly making it from week to week,” said Fails.

She applauded all those who helped make the event possible.

“I want to personally acknowledge our community partners that responded to the call to help provide for area families who were in need. I want to thank Walmart, Rudolph Foods, TJ Maxx, Grace Church and NAACP membership for recognizing that collaborative efforts to help others is more powerful than any efforts of division,” Fails said.
