Wapak man killed in Monday crash near Celina

CELINA — A Wapakoneta man was killed early Monday in a crash at the intersection of state Route 707 and U.S. Route 127.

Andrew J. Hughes, 42, was pronounced dead at Van Wert County Hospital, Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey said.

Hughes was driving west on state Route 707 when he failed to stop at a stop sign at U.S. 127. Hughes’ vehicle collided with a tractor-trailer traveling north on U.S. 127, Grey said.

The driver of the semi, Bhupinder Singh, 55, of Greenwood, Indiana, was not injured. The crash remained under investigation, Grey said.

The crash was the third fatal accident in Mercer County this year and the second fatal crash over the weekend. Dustin A. Rutter, 24, of Coldwater, was killed in a crash Saturday on his motorcycle when a driver turned in front of him, Grey said.
