Coldwater man killed, woman hospitalized after crash

COLDWATER — A Coldwater man is dead after the motorcycle he was riding collided with a sport utility vehicle. The driver of the SUV was hospitalized.

Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey said the fatal crash occurred at about 11:30 a.m. Saturday on state Route 219 just west of Gause Road in Butler Township, west of Coldwater.

Grey said Jane E. Fiely, 65, of Coldwater, was eastbound on Route 219 in a 2011 Chevy Equinox, and made a left turn into a private drive, turning into the path of the westbound motorcycle. The 1986 Honda motorcycle was driven by Dustin A. Rutter, 24, of Coldwater. The motorcycle struck the passenger side of the Equinox.

Rutter was taken to Mercer Health, where he was later pronounced dead. Fiely was also taken to Mercer Health Hospital.

Grey said the matter was still under investigation late Saturday.
