St. Marys police talk suicidal man out of home peacefully

ST. MARYS — Police arrested a 30-year-old man Thursday who barricaded himself into his home and was threatening suicide.

Police were able to talk Andrew Meinerding out of the home at 623 W. North St. peacefully. The incident began as a domestic violence situation in the home but when police arrived Meinerding barricaded himself inside and threatened to end his life with a knife, St. Marys Police Chief Mark Ernst reported.

Police negotiators talked to him for more than an hour and a half on the phone and were able to convince him to peacefully surrender about 9 p.m. He was taken to the Auglaize County jail where he is being held on charges of domestic violence and inducing panic, Ernst reported.
