ELIDA — To Elida native Andy Dooley, physical fitness is more than just a routine.
It is a lifestyle.
That dedication to his health has made him one of 12 finalists to be the face of a national brand.
Dooley is currently third among the 12 finalists in the Reebok One competition. The winning fitness professional will not only be used to inspire others into becoming physically fit, they will receive a contract with Reebok to become the face of the brand.
His current standing gives him a chance to be named, as the top four vote-getters will be considered for the spot.
Dooley was a basketball and football standout at Elida High School and went on to play football at Miami of Ohio and then football and basketball at Wittenberg, where he received a degree in East Asian Studies. He is now a fitness professional in Ventura, California.
Dooley said a friend recommended he send a profile to be considered for the contest. Dooley sent it in and was contacted by Reebok shortly after that he was a finalist.
“I was extremely excited when I opened the email from Reebok One,” Dooley said.
Local residents can help Dooley remain in the top four by voting online once a day at reebokone.com/en-US/reebokonehome. The top four will then go through a three-day interview with celebrity judges at the Reebok headquarters in Canton, Massachusetts.
Dooley has maintained his fitness by doing interval training in the mornings Monday through Saturday. Interval training involves sprint-slowdown-sprint before he eats. He finishes at night with a weightlifting regimen. He allows himself one day a week, which he calls Sunday Funday, to partake of what foods he’s craving. Otherwise, he keeps a healthy diet full of proteins and vegetables, staying away from processed foods.
Dooley encouraged others to be healthy and said good health is right around the corner.
“Don’t look at it as a diet,” Dooley said. “It is a lifestyle. You just have to be consistent, disciplined and patient. Get one percent better every day. You will notice a difference in 30 days.”
