Senate approves Lincoln Highway plates

COLUMBUS — Ohio Sen. Cliff Hite announced Wednesday the Senate passage of legislation to create Lincoln Highway license plates to support the historical preservation and advertisement of the Lincoln Highway in Ohio.

Senate Bill 119 establishes the Lincoln Highway specialty license plate to recognize the first transcontinental highway for automobiles across the United States. The Lincoln Highway stretches from Times Square in New York City to San Francisco, California.

“I am elated that we have finally gotten to this point in the legislative process,” said Hite. “We will be working with the House and the Governor’s office to get this bill passed as soon as possible.”

Locally, the Lincoln Highway runs along what is now U.S. 30 through Hancock, Allen and Van Wert counties.

The Ohio Lincoln Highway Historic Byway will receive $20 for each license plate sold to promote tourism and foster preservation efforts along the highway.
