File Photo Delphos Police Chief Kyle Fittro announed Monday that he is resigning his post June 26.

DELPHOS — Delphos Police Chief Kyle Fittro said in a statement released Monday that he would be resigning his post, effective June 26.

“After much careful thought and consideration, I have elected to resign, effective June 26, at 4 p.m.” Fittro wrote in his statement. “I am doing this to pursue a career in the private sector and have already secured a position within the private sector.”

Fittro said he will be working with Fenix LLC in Wapakoneta as an accounts manager. The company is a steel wire manufacturer. Fittro will travel the country managing accounts at the company’s many sites.

“I have nothing bad to say about Delphos,” he said. “It was a great opportunity and experience being here, I was just offered a deal that was too good for me to turn down.”

The release said assistant Chief Mark Slate will be appointed as acting chief until the vacancy can be filled. The full-time position will become available first to anyone within the department who is eligible to take and pass the civil service test. Fittro said four officers currently at the department meet the guidelines.

The Delphos Civil Service Commission will hire someone based on the test results or open it up to outside the department if nobody passes the test internally.
