LIMA — The nationally recognized Musical Ambassadors are making their way to Lima next month.

The United States Army Field Band, The Volunteers, also known as “The Musical Ambassadors of the Army” are performing at 7 p.m. July 2 at the Rotary Pavilion, in Faurot Park.

The concert, sponsored by The Lima News, the Lima Rotary Club and Menards, is meant to showcase patriotism while gearing up for the Fourth of July weekend.

Other military-based concert bands have also played in Lima, said Bill Clinger, marketing director with The Lima News. Branches from the Navy, Marines and Air Force have performed for area residents.

“They’re very talented groups, musicians and obviously they bring out the message of patriotism — that typical red, white and blue from a military-performing group,” he said.

“We get a great response [for military bands] because we’re one of those very traditional communities and we have a lot of veterans,” he said.

The Volunteers, created in 1981, tells the story of the Army through various genres of music, reaching audiences of all ages and backgrounds. Their CD, titled “The Volunteers: Only in America,” features songs by Taylor Swift, Marvin Gaye, Johnny Cash and more.

The event is free and open to the public, Clinger said. No tickets are needed to enter, but lawn chairs for seating are suggested.
