CONTINENTAL — The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office was searching for an individual who struck a barn with his or her vehicle and likely has injuries as a result.
Officials believe the incident happened before 1:30 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of state Route 15 and Road G, near Continental, said Deputy Randy Weller with the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office. The barn is owned by Nancy Warnimont.
Weller said he believes the vehicle had been traveling east on state Route 15, struck the barn, turned the car around, and drove off westbound on state Route 15.
Though there were no witnesses to the incident, someone called the Sheriff’s Office at about 1:30 a.m. to report the damage, Weller said.
The vehicle was believed to be silver or grey in color, as officials found paint residue at the scene.
The car would have sustained heavy front-end damage, as the barn is steel-framed and features aluminum siding, Weller said.
The Sheriff’s Office has checked area hospitals to see if anyone has been treated for injuries consistent with the incident, however no one has turned up, Weller said.
The barn was once used as storage for Alan Warnimont, also known as “Al, the man in the hat” for his former furniture store in Putnam County, Weller said.
Since his death, Nancy Warnimont has turned the barn into storage, a horse barn and an indoor horse arena, Weller said. The barn housed about 10 horses.
No horses were harmed in the incident.
