100th birthday: Lewis E. Bassett

BLUFFTON —Lewis E. Bassett is celebrating his 100th birthday with a public celebration from 12-3 p.m. on Sunday, April 30 at Pleasant View of the Brethren Fellowship Hall, 4950 N. Thayer Rd., Elida. Bassett was born May 3, 1923, at Glen Oak Farm, Spencerville, to Howard and Doris Bassett. On May 4, 1947, he married his wife, Imogene, who died November 3, 2017.

Bassett has four children: Dennis (Pat) Bassett of Columbus Grove, Nancy (Dennis) Hitchings of Dublin, David (Kim) Bassett of Lima, and Rosemary (Dan) Spearman of Wapakoneta. He also has 12 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. Two great-grandchildren, Brady Bassett and Michael Brodman, are dead.

Lewis was a lifelong farmer who witnessed many agricultural developments, from horse-powered tractors to combines and tractors guided by GPS. Lewis also has a love of flying, earning his pilot license and flying his own plane. Most of all, Lewis enjoys spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
