Remember how cameras followed Rep. Kevin McCarthy up and down the aisles of the House as he tried to string together enough deals during 15 rounds of voting to be elected House speaker?

I am too practical to ever be cutting-edge fashionable.

I finally brought myself to watch a shortened clip of the brutal beating of Tyre Nichols by Tadarrius Bean, Demetrius Haley, Emmitt Martin III, Desmond Mills Jr. and Justin Smith, the five former Memphis police officers who have now been charged with second-degree murder.

I wonder if we in the Lima area have appreciated the many media members who’ve so enriched our lives. Some, like Michael Reghi and Scott Clark, who both once upon a time worked at WLIO, went on to lager markets and achieved great success, the former as a play-by-play broadcaster both in college and the pros, and the latter as sports director and anchor at WABC in New York City.

For agreements and contracts of any financial or other significance, a written agreement is advisable, even if not legally required. This is because it is more difficult to later argue about the terms of the “deal” if the agreement is not in writing to begin with.

It’s always good when people take time out of their busy schedules to protest what they believe to be an injustice.

If you are like me and think that government interference in our lives is a little bit too much, then the next time you go to buy a container of margarine at the grocery, just think about this — 120 years ago, you could buy cocaine in drug stores, saloons and by mail order, but in some U.S. states and in Canada you could not buy margarine at all. Additionally, even if a state didn’t consider it to be contraband, margarine could not be dyed yellow to make it look like butter. The period is known as the great margarine war.

In an ever-maddening world, nothing is off-limits to woke revisionists. One of the latest examples is the roll-out of “Velma,” the prequel to the classic Hanna-Barbera animated “Scooby-Doo” series which debuted in 1969.

Earlier this month, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine signed Senate Bill 288, which prohibits the use of electronic wireless communication devices while operating a vehicle. I applaud Gov. DeWine and the Ohio Legislature for taking a necessary stand against a deadly issue for our state: distracted driving.

Every so often, history offers a story that is so improbable there is no way it could be true. Yet once in the proverbial blue moon, a tale defies the odds and turns out to have really happened.
