Shawnee Optimists honor students

SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP — The Shawnee Optimist Club honored students from area schools at its meeting Wednesday with its Students of Honor and Achievement Awards Program.

The program is designed to recognize students displaying a desire to perform at their very best in everything they choose to do. These students are exceptional role models, exhibiting outstanding qualities as high school seniors. The award recognizes those who demonstrated outstanding leadership skills inside and outside the classroom, in school and community volunteerism, academic accomplishments and excelled in many of the characteristics outlined in the Optimist Creed.

Ryan Yingst is a student at Perry High School. He has been recognized for athletic talents. He will continue his athletics at Tiffin University in the fall. He helps with Big Brothers and Big Sisters as well as working and earning 21 credits of college credit. He is just one example of the fine students and young citizens honored by the Shawnee Optimists.

Dean Brown joined The Lima News in 2022 as a reporter.
