Price commits to Ohio State

MIDDLE POINT — Landon Price finally made it official.

The Lincolnview standout put pen to paper and signed his national letter of intent to commit to Ohio State University to play baseball Wednesday.

“It is an awesome feeling,” said Price who prior to the signing had committed to play for the Buckeyes. “I couldn’t have done it without the help of my coaches, teammates and everyone else. It is a great feeling 5hq5 all the hard work and dedication paid off and I just can’t wait to get to Columbus.

Price added the the Buckeyes were always his No. 1 choice and the recruiting began in the fall of his freshman year.

“I think even before it did start I think I knew Ohio State was out there and I have been a Buckeye my whole life and obviously once they sent that offer out I jumped on it.”

The three-sport standout is one of the most prolific pitchers in Lincolnview’s history. He holds the Lancer record with most pitching wins in a season (11), most strikeouts in a season (162), most innings pitched in a season (80.2) and the best earned run average (0.174).

He was a first team all-Ohio choice and the Northwest Conference Player of the Year in 2021.

Price also plays golf and basketball.

“Landon gets everything that he works for,” Lincolnview head baseball coach Eric Fishpaw said. “He goes to the gym at 5 a.m. He is a good student. He gets good grades. He is three-sport athlete which you want in a small school like Lincolnview so he puts the work in at practice and after practice. When I think of Landon I think of work ethic and I think of leadership. He leads all three of the teams he is on in a positive demeanor and he is a rare kid in today’s high school athletics.”

True to his nature, Price understands that he still has to work on his game as he climbs to the next level.

“One thing for myself that I need to work on is my secondary offerings,” Price said. My curveball. My change-up and just making sure I can throw it on any count given just to get guys out like that too.”

Price will be majoring in marketing.

Price said that the OSU coaching staff has not specifically told him what his role is going to be once he joins the team but added that he would probably be a reliever when he gets there but aims to become a starter.

And if given the opportunity to turn pro, Price said he would definitely jump on it but for now he is taking it one step at a time.

With his senior season still ahead of him, Price acknowledges his past accolades but is also focused on the upcoming season.

“Last year we had a great year and made it all the way to the state championship,” Price said. “We just came up a little bit short but all the records I broke last year is a great feeling but I can’t wait to get back out there with another group of guys and do the same thing and get the gold trophy this time.”
