Elida students sign on to progress

ELIDA — Students at Elida Elementary School are leaving their mark on the new elementary school building, slated to open after Labor Day 2021.

On Friday, students signed their names to a beam that will be inserted into the new building. Elida schools Superintendent Joel Mengerink described it as a fun way to involve students in the building project.

Mengerink said the project is on schedule to open in time for the 2021-22 school year, which will begin after Labor Day.

Students will be on an extended summer break this school year to allow enough time for contractors to abate and demolish the current school building.
