Divers find body of man who fled police in Ohio river

ROCKY RIVER (AP) — Authorities say divers have found the body of a man who went over a cliff and into a river while running from police outside of Cleveland.

Rocky River police said Sunday that the man’s body was found near a spot in the river where he’d been spotted Saturday night by fishermen at a marina.

Police say the man had pending arrest warrants and fled an officer who saw him sitting in a car outside an apartment building. Police say the man went under a fence at the edge of a cliff leading to the Rocky River below.

Fishermen spotted the man in the river minutes later. An officer and a fisherman tried to rescue him but were deterred by currents and water temperatures.

Police haven’t released the man’s name.
