Flowers, Thomas named first team all-state

Lima Senior’s Ruben Flowers and Jaylin Thomas added to their list of football honors on Monday.

Flowers and Thomas were both named first team all-state on the Associated Press’ Division II all-state team.

Both had earlier been named first team all-Three Rivers Athletic Conference and first team all-district. Thomas was the Division II district’s defensive player of the year.

Flowers and Thomas were also the players of the year on The Lima News’ Dream Team.

It was second straight year Flowers had been named first team all-state.

The 6-foot-4 Flowers is headed to Pittsburgh to play wide receiver. In 10 regular-season games, he had 69 receptions, for 1,065 yards and 14 TDs.

Thomas, a 6-foot-3, 210-pound middle linebacker, had a school-record 172 tackles in 10 games, 22 for loss. He also had five sacks and one interception.

The Division I and Division II all-state teams were released on Monday.

Lima Senior quarterback Darius Gordon and Spartans running back Jaden Walker were both named to the second team.

Lima Senior offensive lineman Darius Collins was named special mention.

The Division II state offensive players of the year were LaSalle’s Jeremy Larkin and Massillon Perry’s Keishaun Sims.

The Division II state defensive player of the year was Perrysburg’s Chaz Westfall.

The Division II state coach of the year was Massillon Perry’s Keith Wakefield.

In Division I, the offensive player of the year in the state was Stow-Munroe Falls’ Jayson Gobble. The defensive player of the year was Lakewood St. Edward’s Michael O’Malley.

The Division I state coach of the year was Euclid’s Jeff Rotsky.
