LimaWilliam Horvath, 85, died at 8:15 a.m. July 13, 2011, at his residence.He was born Dec. 27, 1925, in Winterhaven, Fla., to George and Elizabeth Schwartz Horvath, who preceded him in death. On Dec. 25, 1947, he married Carol Army, who died April 15, 2010.Mr. Horvath was a 1943 graduate of Spencerville High School. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving two years. He retired in 1987 as a truck driver from Duff Truck Lines, after 38 years. Following his retirement, he sold real estate for Oakridge Realty and worked in the service department at Tom Ahl’s. He was a member of South Side Christian Church. He enjoyed fishing, camping and model trains. He was an avid fan of The Ohio State University Buckeyes and the Cincinnati Reds. He was a true family man, who was passionate about spending time with his family.Survivors include a son, William L. (Brenda) Horvath, of Lima; three daughters, Linda D. (Donald) Cary, of Grove City, Shirley D. (Thomas II) Shields, of Tallahassee, Fla., and Christine L. (Steven) Downey, of Lima; and eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by two brothers, Steve and Paul David Horvath; and three sisters, Ann Harruff, Irene Oliver and Helen Ward.Services will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at South Side Christian Church. The Rev. Doug Adams will officiate. Burial will be in Spencerville Cemetery, Spencerville, with military rites by the Navy Honors Detail.Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Shawnee Chapel, and 10:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.Memorial contributions may be made to St. Rita’s Hospice or the American Cancer Society.Condolences may be expressed at www.chiles-lamanfh.com.
