Larry Curtis Simmons, 63, died at 3:20 p.m. Jan. 16, 2011, at his residence.

He was born July 20, 1947, in Columbus, Ga., to Jordan and Dennie Nathan Simmons, who preceded him in death. On Oct. 19, 1992, he married Lillian “Mickey” Williams, who survives in Lima.

Mr. Simmons was a supervisor at Whemco Steel, formerly Ohio Teledyne Steel. He was a member of Philippian Missionary Baptist Church, where he served on the usher board. He was an avid sports fan and loved the Los Angeles Lakers, Pittsburgh Steelers and The Ohio State University Buckeyes. He enjoyed working out and was often seen doing his thing at the Lima YMCA.

Survivors also include a son, Darian Simmons, of Cincinnati; three daughters, LaShawn (Kelsey) Cartwright, Lynda Washington and Leslie (Greg) Taylor, all of Atlanta; two stepsons, Alonzo Williams and Travis Williams, both of Lima; 11 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a brother, Gary E. Simmons, of Lima; two sisters, Arnetia J. (Jonathan) Rader, of Kenosha, Wis., and Josephine Simmons, of Toledo; and his best friend, Cullen Daniel Sr., of Lima.

Services will begin at 1 p.m. Friday at Philippian Missionary Baptist Church. Dr. B. Lamont Monford will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Jones-Clark Funeral Home, where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m.
