COLLEGE PARK, Md. — Brionna Jones had 23 points and a career-high 14 rebounds on Monday night as No. 14 Maryland won its inaugural Big Ten game by defeating Ohio State 87-78 in the conference opener for both teams.
Jones scored seven of Maryland’s last 10 points down the stretch to help hold off the Buckeyes, who had closed to 77-73 on Cait Craft’s 3-pointer with 2:43 left.
Laurin Mincy also had a double-double for the Terrapins (10-2), finishing with 14 points, 11 rebounds and six assists. Shatori Walker-Kimbrough added 18 points and nine rebounds, Tierney Pfirman scored 14 and Lexie Brown added 12. Maryland had a 59-37 edge on the glass.
Ameryst Alston scored 22 points and Kelsey Mitchell added 19 for the Buckeyes. Ohio State (8-5) never led in the second half after trailing 43-40 at halftime.
Maryland took its largest lead at 72-58 with 8:59 left after a 15-3 run.

DURHAM, N.C. — Freshman center Jahlil Okafor scored a season-high 27 points and No. 2 Duke (11-0) beat pesky Toledo (7-5) on Monday night.
Quinn Cook added a season-best 20 points and Tyus Jones had 15 for Duke, which was playing its first game since Dec. 18.
Julius Brown scored 19 for Toledo, which erased most of a 14-point deficit by making 13 of 15 shots over a 9½-minute stretch. Brown’s 3-pointer about 90 seconds into the second half cut Duke’s lead to 47-44.

AUSTIN, Texas — Freshman Myles Turner scored 16 points in his first career start, and 11th-ranked Texas (11-2) held off an inspired Rice team (3-8).
