COLUMBUS — Ohio State coach Urban Meyer has been sidelined with an appendectomy.

Team spokesman Jerry Emig confirmed that Meyer, who led the Buckeyes to the national championship last season, could be held in the hospital overnight Wednesday.

Ohio State canceled an appearance by its fourth-year coach at the University of Findlay on Wednesday night, but he is still scheduled to throw out the first pitch at Yankee Stadium on Friday night as part of a trip to New York City.

Meyer, who briefly resigned at Florida due to health reasons before returning, had surgery in March 2014 to remove fluid from a cyst on his brain.

He said his health was fine all last season and he appeared to be healthy during recently completed spring practices.

Bears agree to deal with first-round pick

LAKE FOREST, Ill. — The Chicago Bears have agreed to a four-year contract with West Virginia receiver Kevin White, the seventh overall pick in the draft.

The Bears entered the draft with big needs on defense coming off a 5-11 season but took a play-making receiver to replace the traded Brandon Marshall with their top pick. For White, it was the next step on a meteoric rise from Lackawanna College in Scranton, Pennsylvania, to West Virginia and a founding franchise in the NFL.

White’s contract includes a fifth-year option. The Bears also announced Wednesday a four-year deal with second-rounder Eddie Goldman, a defensive lineman from Florida State.

Five of Chicago’s six picks are under contract. Only third-round pick and former Oregon center Hroniss Grasu remains unsigned.
