Four area athletes have been named to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference football team.
Elida’s Quentin Poling, a freshman linebacker, led Ohio University in tackles with 89 and had five sacks and three interceptions. He had a 3.86 grade point average in pre-exercise physiology.
Shawnee’s Zac Rosenbauer, a senior fullback for the University of Toledo, had a 3.54 grade point average in information systems.
Delphos St. John’s Chris Pohlman, a senior tight end/fullback for Bowling Green, had a 3.86 grade point average in engineering technology.
Bluffton’s Christian Koch, a junior punter, averaged 40.1 yards per kick and had a 3.29 GPA in kinesiology at Miami University.
MURPHY SETS RECORD: Shawnee High School’s Emily Murphy set a University of Pittsburgh freshman record with a time of 23.06 second in the 50 freestyle in a time trial.
She was first in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle in the Pitt Invite and first in the 50 freestyle and second in the 100 freeestyle against West Virginia.
ON TO NCAA: Kendra Averesch (Leipsic) broke the University of Findlay school record in the women’s shot put for the second time this year with a throw of 54 feet, 10 ¾ inches in the Findlay Open indoor meet last Friday. That distance automatically qualified her for the NCAA national tournament.
Lydia Guagenti (Bluffton) also set a University of Findlay record in the same meet in the women’s high jump by clearing the bar at 5 feet, 8 ½ inches.
WHITE UPDATE: Tyler White (Lima Senior) is averaging 8.9 points a game and leads Northern Kentucky University in 3-pointers (42).
The 6-foot, 3-inch junior guard has started 16 of 22 games for NKU (9-13).
KIMBROUGH UPDATE: Freshman Martyce Kimbrough (Lima Central Catholic) has played in 14 of 19 games for the University of Indianapolis.
He is averaging 2.9 points a game for Indianapolis (17-2). The Greyhounds won their first 17 games and were ranked No. 1 in NCAA Division II before losing their last two games.
