Lincolnview receives payment

As part of Iberdrola Renewables’ Blue Creek Wind Farm annual PILOT payments, Lincolnview schools accepted a check worth more than $400,000 on Monday. The district has 34 turbines in the area.

With funds from last year’s donation, the district was able to buy computers for each of its 915 students. The district plans to use future funds to maintain and expand upon school technology and resources.

Band, choir concert scheduled

Lima Senior High School band and choral will have a combined concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday in the school auditorium.

Tickets are $3 for adults and $1 for students. Children under 6 are free.

Lima locals win hoop shoot competition

The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks held the state Hoop Shoot Competition on Feb. 14.

Landon Callahan and Brody Bowman of Temple Christian School represented Lima Elks Lodge 54. Landon placed sixth and Brody came in first. Brody will continue in the competition at the Elks Regional Hoop Shoot in Angola, Indiana, on March 21.

Dinner and a show

Crestview Knight Vision and Jazz Band received the trophy for first runner-up at the Southern Wells competition. The Vocal Music Department will also host its annual dinner theater at 6:30 p.m. March 27 and 28, featuring Knight Vision, the high school chorus, jazz band and middle school swing choir.

Tickets for “A Knight in Lights” are $12.

Lima MVP meeting

Lima City School’s next MVP (Most Valuable Parent) will include speaker Chris Banks, presenting excerpts from the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s speeches.

The meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Lima West Middle School.

School accepting open enrollment

Crestview Local Schools will be accepting applications to open enroll for the 2015-16 school year.

Applications will be accepted beginning April 1, on a first‐come, first‐served basis until June 15.

Requests will be acted upon no later than June 15. Parents interested in open enrollment for kindergarten students must complete an application at kindergarten registration, which is schedule for March 16 through the 20 from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the elementary school office.

Shawnee band visits Disney

On Feb. 16, members of Shawnee High School “Band of One” Marching Band entertained resort guests at the Magic Kingdom Park.

The group traveled more than 1,000 miles from Lima to the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida to take part in the Disney Performing Arts Program.

Bittersweet announces summer enrichment dates

This summer, the organization will have enrichment programs in Whitehouse, Pemberville and Betty’s Farm.

Whitehouse: June 8 to July 24, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mondays through Fridays (closed week of July 4)

Pemberville: June 1 to Aug. 14, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mondays through Fridays (closed week of July 4)

Betty’s Farm: June 1 to Aug. 14, 9:30 a.m to 2:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays (closed July 3 and 4)

Break every chain

Break Every Chain, a women’s conference designed to create awareness and provide education on the reality of human trafficking locally, encourages women of all ages to take action by recognizing potential trafficking victims and empower all women who find themselves enslaved to something to live in freedom.

The organization will host an event from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 21 at Lima Senior High School. Admission includes donations. All donations will be used to assist girls and women who are rehabilitating after a trafficking situation and assist with their reintroduction to society.
