5K run/walk scheduled for Ash Wednesday
A 5K run/walk will begin at 5:45 p.m. Feb. 18 at St. John’s Annex, 722 S. Jefferson St. The race is being organized by St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church as a community event to mark the beginning of the Lenten season. Registration for the event is from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. at annex, with an Ash Wednesday service being held at 5:30 p.m. before the race. The race is open to runners and walkers of all ages and denominations. The cost is $10 to participate or $25 with an event shirt. All proceeds from the race will go to St. Vincent DePaul Society to help the needy. Corned beef carry-out lunch deadline extended
Temple Beth Israel-Shaare Zedek’s Sisterhood’s annual carry-out corned beef lunch fundraiser on Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 1, has a new deadline for ordering. It has been extended to Friday. Visit chairwoman Nancy Mayerson at the pharmacy at Rite Aid, Breese and Shawnee roads, to place orders. Cost is $8.75 per lunch (includes quarter pound of kosher corned beef on Jewish rye bread, dill pickle, potato salad, sauerkraut, mustard and a brownie). Extra corned beef is also available at $9 per pound. To order, include your name, address and phone number with a check written to Temple Sisterhood.
Lunches may be picked up from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at the temple, 2105 Lakewood Ave.
Also, delivery is available to businesses that prepay for at least eight lunches. Deliveries will be made from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday. Extra sandwiches and corned beef may be available that day; call 419-223-9616 to check.
This event is the main fundraiser for the temple’s operation and maintenance.
