ADA — Ohio Northern got two defensive stops in the final minute and held on for a 61-59 victory over Mount Union in an Ohio Athletic Conference women’s basketball game Wednesday night at the ONU Sports Center.
The Polar Bears improved to 9-3 overall and 5-0 in the OAC, while the Purple Raiders fell to 5-7 and 1-4 in the league.
Senior Jordan Kimes and junior Carly Thomas led ONU with 14 points each and junior Karissa Steffas added 12 points and nine rebounds.
Steffas nailed two free throws with 1:04 left to put ONU ahead 61-59.
Mount Union had the ball twice with a chance to tie the game or take the lead.
But a steal by Thomas with 33 seconds left thwarted the first possession and the ONU defense forced a traveling call with 6.5 seconds remaining in the game.
ONU missed the front-end of a 1-and-1 with 1.5 seconds to play, but the Purple Raiders could not get off a shot before the buzzer sounded and the Polar Bears had held on for the win.
“Thank goodness for our defense,” ONU head coach Michele Durand said. “We did a really nice job in the final minute. It was a typical, hard-fought OAC game and we are fortunate to come away with the win.”
Bluffton 87, Mount St. Joseph 48
CINCINNATI — Macey Sheerer (15), Taylor Whitaker (14), Kaitlyn Pennekamp (13) and Mikayla Coburn (10) all scored in double digits for Bluffton, which moved to 9-3 overall and 4-1 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference.
Sheerer also had 11 rebounds and teammate Gwen Downing had eight boards.
Mount St. Joseph fell to 4-8 overall and 0-5 in the HCAC.

LIMA — Madison Coldren (24), Morgan Cnudde (14), Sammi Dervisevic (13), Becca Harshman (13), Eboni Adams (13) and Shakeia Salters (10) all scored in double digits for the University of Northwestern Ohio.
Lauren Hopfner and Natalie Billing finished with seven rebounds each.
The Racers improved to 7-10 overall and 5-4 in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference. Marygrove fell to 3-14 overall and 1-8 in the WHAC.
Miami Middletown 78, OSU/Lima 49
LIMA — Katelyn Georgens had 19 points, Hannah Sensibaugh had 14 points and Megan Imwalle scored 10 for OSU Lima/Rhodes State.

LIMA — Aaron Cross and Lawrence Jackson had 20 points each and Ray Beatty (13), Kermeriaz Harrington (11) and Ed Jenkins (10) also scored in double digits for the Racers, who are now 12-5 overall and 7-2 in the WHAC. Marygrove fell to 3-4 on the season and 1-8 in the league.
Jackson and teammate Kermeriaz Harrington each had eight rebounds.

LIMA — Larry Fuqua had 14 points and Trey Schroeder scored 12 for the Barons.
